National Garden Club Week

Gateway Garden Club

As part of our club's community service & National Garden Club Week, several members enjoyed creating table arrangements for Potomac Valley Audubon Society's spring fundraiser on June 7th at the historical home & property Falling Springs near Shepherdstown. Our club also added the finishing touches to our Red, White and Blue planters which is part of a 250th celebration display by several Berkeley County garden clubs in front of Martinsburg Public Library. During this special week our club joins the WVGCI as we proudly recognize the civic partners, like our local Audubon Society and the Martinsburg Public Library, who help our communities flourish & have a shared commitment to caring for the places we call home.

Frankfurt District Garden Club

The goal of the project was to plant and display live flowers in patriotic colors in celebration of the 250th year of our nation’s founding. Red, white and blue petunias were planted at the Ashby’s Fort Museum. This location was chosen due its historic significance in forging our nations independence during the French & Indian War. Additionally, several village businesses proudly supported our community beautification efforts by recognizing NGW on their electronic signs. Also, a patriotic themed pot of geraniums was placed at the local library to bring the attention to our club, community beautification commitment and to honor the country’s 250th birthday.

Frankfort District 01 Red, white and blue wave petunias were placed in the planters at Ashby’s Fort Museum. The colors of these annuals complimented the perennial blue salvia, thyme, and golden oregano in the adjoining building foundation bed seen in the background.

Frankfort District 03 A planter of red and white geraniums trimmed with an American flag was placed at the entrance to the Fort Ashby library. It was accompanied by a framed announcement of National Garden Week including signage of the project of the Frankfort District Garden Club.

Frankfort District 04 Businesses in the village of Fort Ashby joined in the celebration by proclaiming National Garden Week on their electronic signs.

Fred Brooks Garden Club

Hill and Hollow Garden Club

Hill & Hollow Garden Club members gathered the first week of June to celebrate the nations upcoming 250th anniversary and honor local service personnel with our National Garden Week Projects. Thank you notes and four large arrangements in red, white and blue were created and distributed to honor local law enforcement, fire and ambulance services. Smaller arrangements were given to City Hall and other organizations and community members to show appreciation for making our small town feel like home.

Honeysuckle Garden Club

The goal of the Honeysuckle Garden Club was to clear out old plants and shrubs from the large planter at the RD Bailey Visitor Center and plant red, white, and blue flowers in its place.
Roma Lester, Janie Hatfield, Shannon Lester, Penny Jones, a park ranger, and an intern at the lake worked on the planter. We added new soil and planted 36 red, white, and blue perennials. After the plants were in place, we watered and mulched the bed, then placed a flag at the Blue Star Memorial. Many people visit the lake and will recognize the planter as a symbol of gratitude to our beautiful country.

Mountaineer Garden Club

Project One: The Mountaineer Garden Club located in Parsons WV each year plants 40 planters that adorn the streets of the city. This year to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of our Nation, the club decided to plant red, white and blue flowers. Crystal Nelson was the chair person. She searched out appropriately colored plants that would do well in sun or part shade and require little maintenance. Mandevilla was selected for its rich red color, lush foliage and easy care. White begonia and Pratia angulata | White Star Creeper Groundcover in addition to black and blue salvia and small American flags all planted by Linda Sherman, Bonnie Smith, Faith Moore and Crystal Nelson and Parsons is ready to celebrate.
Project two: involved planting around the Blue Star Memorial and adding a special flag that thanks all veterans for 250 years of service. Again the red, white and blue color theme was carried through with red Calibrachoa, white begonials and blue tweeda in addition to the American flags draws the eyes to our marker.

Williamson Wildwood Garden Club

Set the following goals for National Garden Club Week:

Have city recognize National Garden Club with proclamation. Mayor and City Council read and signed proclamation at City Council meeting on May 14th, 2026.
